August 2012 Update
Hey Guildies. Thanks for your patience last week during our upgrades. And thanks to those of you who helped us work out a few bugs in the system. As you can see, the site has a new clean and simple layout that everyone seems to love so far.
I’m not going to go into details on all of the changes in this post, primarily because no action is required on your part. The biggest change existing members will notice is that there will be more content on a more regular basis. But if you want to get into the nitty gritty or if you’re interested in upgrading to our new Superfan Membership, you can read the details here.
Paul Schurch Interview
On August 8th at 7pm Eastern on the Live Page, we are having a live interview with Paul Schurch, a marquetry expert. Exciting!!
Remember, your questions are a crucial part of the process! While I do like to take questions during the live interview, you have a much better shot of getting your questions answered if you submit them ahead of time. You can do that by simply leaving your question in the comments section below.

Bookcases
The next build starts on August 17th and features the One & Two Sheet Bookcases. This is the perfect beginner project as well as a great project for folks with limited tools. In fact, this is the first in our new Limited Tools series.
For those of you who aren’t all that enthusiastic about this project’s “basic” nature, don’t worry. We have some cool things planned once the shop is back up and running. See below.
Future Builds
It’s too early to commit to anything but I can certainly give you a little food for thought. Two projects that are on deck are a bed project for a client (I mentioned this one before). And I am also looking to make a tilt-top table. I want to build two: one traditional and one modernized. Perhaps I have been watching too many old episodes of Woodworks lately but I’m thinking we should probably try making some tapered (in two dimensions) bent-laminated legs. Yeah, think on that for a while.
So as promised, the “new” Guild is off to a roaring start. I hope you enjoy the changes.
I am in the process of building 2 beds for my kids … mortise and tenon and bed bolts for the rails like the bed project on FW magazine … I think a bed is a great project and the bed bolts are just awesome, so solid..
Hopefully you’ll decide on the bed and I can build one for me and the wife
Mark I had an idea for a new guild project. A dinning room set complete with table and chairs. I was looking at a simple table which could easily just be a modified shaker table like one you’ve already done. The chairs are the real challenge I would love to see built and together would make a great guild build. I was thinking on a small table 29.5 square and 2 chairs.
I am behind and need to build a loft bed for my daughter.. so I vote for the bed project, SOON 🙂

Thanks dude. We still have some fine-tuning to do here and there but I personally love the new simplified layout. Glad you like it too!
It doesn’t matter what the project is for me. I’m interested in picking up tricks, tips, techniques, different methods, design realizations etc. The bed for a client is mightily interesting as hopefully it will show how you go about the entire process.
The bent-lamination legs are something I’ve been aware of but not known how to go about it. That too is interesting technique so looking forward to them all. Bring them on.

I have always wanted to make a sleigh bed.
I know you’ve probably got something specific to do for the client, but any chance that we could do a bed that matched the dresser from one of the previous guild builds? And, if you do that, maybe do a mini episode where you make a bedside table that matched, and you’d have a series on a bedroom set!
You are correct in that the client has a very specific style request. But I’m sure the techniques and methods used to make this bed could be adapted to one that matches the Chest of Drawers styling. I’ll have to see how far we can take it and play it by ear.
Well im in the market for a new bed. haha. i would love to build my own.

I love the idea of a bed project!!! I have been planning to build one for a year or so but trying to build along with the guilds has notpeftmea whole logic time. That would be exciting! I hope it works out.
